“Gorgeous Sea & Sand” – w/c 15th May 2011
Taba, Egypt, Red Sea, January 2011
Egypt and The Middle East is truly a magical place. After visiting a number of seas, oceans, lakes & rivers around the world, I have to say that I fell in love with the Red Sea from the first dip in the water.
This photo was taken this past Jan on a short break to Taba, Egypt from Israel. It was a great 3-day getaway at a great deal. I took this photo from my sun bed with my mobile phone – not too bad, I know. This area of the world is known for its diving but you can even see some beautiful fish just by snorkelling or going for a bit of a dip – ah, bliss.
Have you visited Taba, Egypt or the Red Sea? What did you love about it?

“The Most Beautiful Bridge in the World” – w/c 1st May 2011
Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, USA, July 2003
San Francisco and the entire state of California is another special place in my heart. The beauty of the Golden Gate Bridge is something that cannot be described and has to be seen first hand.
This photo was taken on one of my many visits to this fantastic city in July 2003. As I stood in Golden Gate Park, I had the most glorious view of the bridge – it was a clear and beautiful day. I can’t wait to go back! Lovely!
Have you visited California and San Francisco? What did you love about it?

“A Special Place in My Heart” – w/c 24th April 2011
Jersey, Channel Islands, September 2009
Even though I’ve never even been to Paris (hint, hint – if anyone wants to go) I have been fortunate to visit different areas of the country that most people haven’t been to.
I know I’ve banged on about this a number of times but some of my favourite photos are of my old home, Jersey in the Channel Islands.
This photo was taken on my first visit to Jersey in Sept 2005. Look at the glorious sky, the colour of the water and the clean beach – aw bliss. I just made a visit there (got back yesterday) so I can tell you that this is where my mind & heart is right now.
Have you visited Jersey? What did you think?

“Medieval Beauty with French Charm” – w/c 17th April 2011
Dinan, France, June 2006
Even though I’ve never even been to Paris (hint, hint – if anyone wants to go) I have been fortunate to visit different areas of the country that most people haven’t been to.
One of these places is in the lovely town of Dinan. Dinan is about 20 – 30 minutes by car from St Malo in Brittany. It is a small medieval town that is parked right on the riverside. I stayed in Dinan for only 1 night but it was very special indeed.
This photo was taken on a walk around the town – as you can see the town is built around the river and castles grace this area. Glorious!
Have you visited France, Dinan or the Brittany region? What did you think?

“Snow + Mountains – A lovely combination” – w/c 10th April 2011
Squaw Valley Resort, Lake Tahoe, California, Jan 2004
As I’ve mentioned, I’m a sun seeker and not the biggest fan of snow. To some the sight of snow, makes them excited and brings back kid-like memories. For me, having lived in it for years upon years, I don’t have the same feelings. I wish I did, but I don’t.
Alas, I do love a good view and that is exactly what I got when I visited Lake Tahoe in Jan 2004. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was in Lake Tahoe for work purposes and got to explore a part of the Southern state I would have likely ignored.
The Squaw Valley Resort is also famous as it hosted the 1960 Olympic games – truly a classic venue and one that has been maintained.
In honour of what I hope is the end of the winter season (I think I’m not alone in this) this is the Photo of the Week. Cherish the beauty, look forward to another season!
Have you visited Squaw Valley or Lake Tahoe? What did you think?

“The classic, windswept look – Kibbutz Chic” – w/c 27th March 2011
Miriam (the “Travelling Starfish”), Kibbutz Ketura, South Israel, Dec 2009
I’m sure that this isn’t the first time you’ve seen this photo of me. It was taken about a week after I arrived on Kibbutz Ketura by a friend named Anna. It’s now become the primary photo I use for my Travelling Starfish blog.
On a Saturday, where we didn’t have too much to do, we ventured across the road over to where the date trees were. This is us getting a bit lost in the desert. For December, I couldn’t complain – as you can see its warm, there’s a bit of wind and a whole lot of scenery. All of this made for an experience (and photo) I’ll always remember.
The southern part of Israel is one of my favourite areas of the country and unfortunately the least visited by most tourists. I urge anyone visiting Israel to drive a few hours south or an hour north (if coming from Eilat) and take it all in. It’s totally worth it.
Have you visited the South of Israel? What did you think?

“Architecture extraordinaire” – w/c 20th March 2011
Casa Mila “La Predrera”, Barcelona, Spain, June 2003
I took this photo back in 2003 on a 2-week trip to Spain. This was my first trip to Europe and the beginning of my love affair with Spain.
La Predrera (meaning “quarry”) instantly caught my eye. It is a creation by the artist Antonio Gaudi who decorates the overall city of Barcelona with his wild & wacky style. He intended to rent the rooms out in the apartment complex – he had some issues in doing that though. You see, the building has no 90 degree angles and most surfaces – including the ceilings and floors are uneven. The rooms were irregularly shaped so people didn’t want to deal with furnishing flats that were so oddly shaped…lol. Little did they know what they were missing.
I highly recommend a visit here. When I went they did drinks & live jazz music in the evenings on the rooftop (where I took the photo). An amazing experience! Those were the days:).
Have you visited La Predrera”? What did you think?

“Sun & nature, how I miss you” – w/c 13th March 2011
Blue Mountains, Australia, Jan 2005
I took this photo on my 6-week trip to Australia. This photo brings back amazing memories – I was visiting with some friends that I met in Italy and they toured me around the area. This photo of the beautiful Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains region always reminds me of all the natural beauty in the land down under.
For those who’ve visited Oz, I’m sure you’d agree – send me your thoughts on this photo & others you’d like me to spotlight on my Photo of the Week series.
